Railaco, October 9, 2026 — The Minister of Education, Dr. Dulce de Jesus Soares, inaugurated the new building for the EBF 4 de Setembro (4th of September Branch Basic School) in Railaco-Vila, in the municipality of Ermera. The school is part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts—in partnership with the organization Spend It Well—to improve school infrastructure and ensure a safe, suitable learning environment for students. With this inauguration, EBF 4 de Setembro becomes the 29th school built by the organization Spend It Well for the Ministry of Education.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Education thanked the organization Spend It Well—specifically Kris Webb, Nandy Gurr, and Simon Fenby—for their support and commitment to contributing to the development of education in Timor-Leste. She described this partnership as a significant contribution toward strengthening school infrastructure and improving learning conditions for children.
The Minister also expressed special thanks to two young Australians, Leo and Cezary, who cycled across Australia to raise funds for the construction of schools in Timor-Leste. She acknowledged their efforts, solidarity, and dedication to supporting children’s access to education.
In her remarks, the Minister emphasized that the construction and rehabilitation of school infrastructure remain a priority for the Ministry of Education, especially in areas that lack adequate facilities. She encouraged coordinators and teachers to carry out their duties responsibly, adhere to school schedules, and properly implement the curriculum, ensuring that students receive a quality education. Furthermore, the Minister appealed to the school community—including teachers, students, and parents—to collectively take care of the new building, keep it clean, and use the facilities responsibly. She emphasized that the care and maintenance of school infrastructure are essential to ensuring its long-term use and the continued benefits for future generations of students in Railaco-Vila.
The inauguration of the “4 de Setembro” Basic Education School (EBF) reflects the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the organization Spend It Well, and other partners in the ongoing investment in school infrastructure. With an improved learning environment, it is expected that students will be able to learn in greater comfort, develop their knowledge and skills, and prepare for the future.
