Education Statistics

Reliable data is the foundation of good education policy. The Ministry of Education collects, analyses and publishes education statistics through its Education Management Information System (EMIS), managed with the National Directorate for Planning, Budget and Statistics.

EMIS , The National Education Data System

Formally established in 2008, EMIS tracks key metrics for every school in the country: enrolment, dropout and repetition rates, teachers, and school facilities. Data is collected through the annual school census and used for planning, budgeting and teacher deployment. Strengthening EMIS for data-driven planning is a dedicated component of the World Bank-financed BEST project, and the Ministry is working with UNICEF towards tracking individual student data to better identify children at risk of dropping out.
